Project64 is one of the best N64 emulators out there, but often you’ll be left scratching your head wondering why something just randomly isn’t working. Over the years, the development team has changed which buttons are mapped to be the Project64 speed up button and increase game speed. This can be a bit confusing for players, but in this article we’ll go into how you can speed up your games quite easily. If this is your first time trying to map a button to increase the game speed, this article will make the process very simple for you to follow along! Is There A Project64 Speed Up Button? Yes there is, but before we begin, head to Options > Configuration > PluginsFor your Audio plugin, make sure it’s Jabo’s DirectSound and for your Input plugin, make sure it’s the Project64 input pluginThis is an important step because these are required in order to make the changes in this guide – you’ll want to make sure you don’t have the N-Rage input plugin active and that you’re not using the default Project64 audio pluginIf you change either the Audio or Input plugins, be sure to click the Apply button to save your changes afterHow To Fast Forward In Project 64 One thing to mention before you try speeding up the gameplay is to first make sure that you don’t have audio sync enabled. To check this: First go to Options > Audio SettingsIf Sync game to Audio is checked, be sure to uncheck this option and click the Ok buttonNext, you’ll need to map an input button to increase the game speed for you in both windowed and full screen modes. By default, Increase game speed is set to “+” and decrease game speed is set to “-“. You can change this in your settings: In Project64, click Options > ConfigurationIn the left hand menu, select HotkeysNext, from the dropdown in the top right corner, select either Game playing (windowed) or Game playing (full-screen) – you will need to do this both if you play in both windowed and full screen modesYou’ll then select Options and scroll down to Increase Game SpeedYou’ll see on the right that Increase Game Speed is currently set to the + sign under Current keysClick on the + sign and then click the Remove button to remove its current mappingClick on the dropdown directly beneath Select new shortcut key to choose which key you’d like to speed up the gameAfter selecting the key, be sure to click the Assign button and then click Apply to save your changesYou should now be all set and you should be able to use your selected key/button as the Project 64 speed up button.
