Snes9x is one of the best SNES emulators available, but sometimes you’ll be left confused and wondering why something just randomly isn’t working. The Snes9x development team has made some changes over the years for which buttons are mapped to be the Snes9x speed up button to increase game speed along with the rewind button. Obviously this can be a bit confusing when something no longer works as expected, but in this article we’ll cover how you can fast forward and rewind your gameplay. Yes, you can fast forward and rewind the Snes9x emulatorBy default, the Snes9x fast forward feature is way too fast and we’re going to slow it down just a bit to make it more usable when playing gamesFirst things first, boot up Snes9x and head to the top menu and find Emulation and click on itFrom the Emulation menu that appears, select SettingsOn the Emulation Settings screen, find the input for Skip RenderingThe Emulation Settings screen in Snes9xYou’ll notice that the default value for Skip Rendering is 15 (this is way too high), go ahead and change the value to something between 7 – 12 for a reasonable fast forward speedIf in the future you need to decrease the fast forward speed, you can always come back here and update the value to make it faster or slowerNow go back to the main screen of Snes9x by clicking the OK buttonOnce back on the main Snes9x screen, from the top menu find Input and click on itFrom the menu that appears, select Customize HotkeysHead to Input > Customize HotkeysYou will see a Hotkey Configuration screen popup which is the mapping of every single hotkey that Snes9x usesFrom the Hotkey Configuration screen, on the left hand side you will see Fast forward and RewindThe Hotkey Configuration screen in Snes9xYou’ll notice that by default, Fast forward is mapped to use the Tab key and that Rewind is mapped to use the R keyClick into the Fast forward field to change the hotkey configuration to any other key you prefer, but be sure to remember what you set it to for future referenceNext, click into the Rewind field to change the hotkey configuration to any other key you prefer as well, again making sure to make a note of which key you set it toOnce done, click the OK button to head back to the main screen of Snes9x againNow go ahead and boot up an SNES ROM to test your fast forward and rewind hotkeys.
