It was an entirely unique Pokemon experience unlike any other before it. You took on the role of a Pokemon photographer, tasked by Professor Oak to snap pictures of all sorts of different Pokemon. You had special items that you could use to entice and interact with Pokemon, ensuring you get that perfect shot. At the end of each session, Professor Oak grades your photos and gives you a score for each. It’s the perfect mix of relaxation and fun gameplay that still holds up to this day. Fast forward to 2021 and Nintendo are revamping the Pokemon Snap series with a new entry called “New Pokemon Snap” for the Nintendo Switch. The game is set to release onto the Switch on April 30th. A new trailer for the game just released this past Thursday: The game truly feels like a sequel to the original Pokemon Snap and sets players in the Lental region where they will be on the hunt for Poke-photos. You will work directly with Professor Mirror and his assistant Rita to snap pictures of Pokemon across the Lental region. Just like in the original, the gameplay is set in an on-rails style vehicle which moves automatically through set paths. This time, instead of an apple, players will be able to use Fluffuit to entice Pokemon. The overall art style and graphics are definitely a step up from those that we saw in previous Pokemon games on the Switch. The world looks beautiful and vibrant and it is great to see the attention to detail there. This looks like a true sequel and is a day one pickup for me.
