Pikmin 3 was originally released on the Wii U back in 2013. It is slated for a Nintendo Switch release date of October 30, 2020. Pikmin 3 Deluxe will cost the standard price of $59.99, but this deluxe version will have options for co-op play and will include all previously available DLC on the Wii U version. In Pikmin games, you take control of a space traveler (Olimar) who controls a hoard of the tiny Pikmin type creaturs in order to solve puzzles and progress in each area. Different colored Pikmin have their own unique abilities. Red Pikmin are immune to fire, yellow are immune to electricity, and so on. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is a unique take on the strategy game genre. There are plenty of giant monsters that you must battle alongside your Pikmin and multiple uniquely themed biomes such as Twilight River, Garden of Hope, Distant Tundra. Nintendo has announced that this version of the game will feature a co-op mode where players can work together and play through the story’s campaign. Pikmin 3 Deluxe will feature multiple difficulty options, “improved targeting”, and a new hint system. Pikmin 3 for the Wii U received rather stellar reviews upon its release. Metacritic has it listed with a Metascore of 87 and a user score of 8.7. Nintendojo even went as far as to give the game a score of 100 and say “Pikmin 3 might not be the game that gets people rushing to buy a Wii U, but it certainly should be.” In the user score department, MRbossFTW gave the game a 10 and said the following “Really good game. It is certainly the best game on the wii u since its release. This game should also increase the popularity of the wii u among consumers.” With an October 30th release date, we don’t have too long to wait until Pikmin 3 Deluxe arrives on the Switch. Pikmin fans have been pleading with Nintendo for a new title in the series for years now, and while this may not be a brand new game entirely, it is coming from a system which many Switch users never owned. With such a small adoption rate for the Wii U, many Switch players will now have the opportunity to dive into a Pikmin game (some for the first time). Here’s to hoping this is a sign that Nintendo are secretly working on a Pikmin 4 – what better way to set the stage for a brand new title than warming players up first with a port.
