Already, Pikmin 3 packaging has begun appearing in Japan, showing some interesting unknown information about the upcoming Pikmin game. We’ve gotten some spicy information about Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions and what is known as a “Piklopedia”. A Twitter user by the name of PushDustIn made a tweet showing the game’s box art/packaging in Japan. He mentioned that Pikmin 3 DX will shows that the game has 35 missions, an additional side story, hints, badges (some sort of achievement like system), multiple difficulty options (we were already aware of this one), and a Piklopedia. Before we get started, no you do not need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play the majority of Pikmin 3DX, but we have been told that certain features of hte game will require a NSO subscription in order to be accessed. Apparently, a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required for certain game modes, which leads up to think that multiplayer will have online play capabilities. This hasn’t been confirmed quite yet, but unless Nintendo has added in other game modes (such as a battle mode or some sort of mini games), it seems likely that the online play features could be tied to online co-op. One other option would be this “Piklopedia” that was mentioned – this could be tied to a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and only be accessible through online means. Nintendo is sure to release more information on Pikmin 3 Deluxe Edition as the October 30th release date for the game is nearing each day. Nintendo has been going back and re-releasing select Wii U titles since the launch of the Nintendo Switch. Right at the start of the Switch’s life cycle, we got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which is a port of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U). We also got Super Smash Bros Ultimate (which could be argued as an upgraded port to the Wii U version as well – some also classify this as an entirely new game altogether). Nintendo also brought over Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors, New Super Luigi U, New Super Mario Bros U, and Pokken Tournament. Now Nintendo has decided to bring over a revamped version of Pikmin 3 with “delux-ifying” it. It’s great that Nintendo are bringing over some of the top Wii U titles that many Switch players likely haven’t tried considering the low sales that the system saw. We just hope that Nintendo is still focusing on bringing over a plethora of new Switch games as well, as only porting over older existing titles (and charging a full $60 for them) isn’t really that exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited to play the new Pikmin 3 Deluxe Edition, but I just hope that Nintendo is also secretly working on a Pikmin 4 behind the scenes.
