The slide below is still correct, but Super Paper Mario fits between the two titles being compared. Apologies for the error, I missed a filter setting. I blame 2020. https://t.co/aj8k9VUxUA— Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) August 14, 2020 What’s wild about this information is that Paper Mario: The Origami King didn’t even launch at the beginning of July, it had a release date of July 17th – in just half a month, the game overtook Super Paper Mario for the most sales in their respective launch months. Do keep in mind, that the above information is also without digital sales noted as well which are likely a massive amount when factored in. This is because Super Paper Mario obviously didn’t have the ability for digital sales at that time, so these statistics are simply pinning physical sales against one another. When you couple in the various factors such as covid, digital sales being at an all time high, and the mixed reaction to the new paper mario game, this is very interesting to see. With Super Paper Mario just recently turning 20 years old, this news feels fitting. It’s great to see the success of a Paper Mario game after 20 years of the series and with some of the more recent titles not resonating as well with fans. We wrote up our review of Paper Mario: The Origami King some time ago and we had fun with it. The battle system was the one major gripe that we found with the game, but overall it was a charming ballad and ode to the paper mario series we know and love. What are your thoughts on these sales comparisons? Did you think that Paper Mario: The Origami King would do this well? Let us know in the comments down below.
