Paper Mario 64 Is Coming to Nintendo Switch Online – Release Date Trailer Revealed

Nintendo has officially announced that Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64 will be dropping on Nintendo Switch Online on December 10, 2021.

To much surprise, Nintendo put out an official announcement trailer for the game. It sure is interesting to see Nintendo putting out a trailer for an N64 game in 2021, but it warms a special nostalgia place in the heart. The first entry in the Paper Mario series will finally be on the Nintendo Switch, but many folks are still not happy with the pricetag and quality of NSO.

I personally haven’t upgraded my subscription and still just have the base $20/year model. I am extremely happy to see Paper Mario make its way to NSO, but will likely be holding off until more games are drip fed into the service. It’s a shame that Nintendo takes so long to release the titles. Clearly finances aren’t the reason, but it’s not blatantly obvious to me what is? As someone who subscribed for NSO day one only to realize that Nintendo’s release of Super Nintendo and NES games fell to somewhat of a trickle, which later mostly stopped entirely, I’m not too keen on jumping onboard the N64 bandwagon quite yet.

In summary, I love the Paper Mario series and games 1 and 2 hold a very special place in my heart. Even with that, I still won’t be subscribing to the NSO N64 tier of the service quite yet. I’d like to see Nintendo take the criticisms that they’ve received and make some changes, but have zero expectations. For me, it’s less about the price tag and it’s really more about sending a message with my money.
