So, if you happened to catch the Nintendo Treehouse live last Friday and have been keeping up with gaming news, you know that the latest installment of Paper Mario is coming out this Friday, July 17th! With all the news and information coming out about it, it makes me wonder just one thing; will it be good? The Treehouse live game play from last Friday, July 10th. Nintendo; in many households, has always brought a sense of joy, wonder and general amazement. My home was no exception to this rule; however, I will admit, for all my love of Mario games, I completely missed the Paper Mario ones. Given what the other Mario games have meant to me, this definitely was a missed opportunity. With all the new games and stories, it’s hard to decipher what would make this good for the classic Paper Mario fan. The Paper Mario games have always had funny dialogue, and Paper Mario: The Origami King looks like it’s shaping up to add to the ranks. The ability to haggle with merchants while onlooking spectators cheer and jeer as well as some of the characters behaviors and dialogue are so funny that I couldn’t help but laugh. All of which definitely adds charm to the game and makes for exciting encounters. The battles and fight mechanics in the game have always changed just a little bit. This battle being based in an almost puzzle solving manner to build combos is an interesting way for that to go. The crowd building function is still in play as well! The art is impeccable; one could argue that there maybe better looking games; but this one would definitely place at the top. In looks, I feel as though they’ve definitely continued with the visual appeal of Paper Mario: Color Splash. While the realistic elements came across as a little jarring to some, I feel as though it was more a show of ability than anything else, and I can’t wait to see that ability in action. There have been a few reviews that have come out today, overwhelmingly they are fairly positive. It seems like most everyone is onboard with the games appeal visually as well as the characters and dialogue. Some appears to be excited for a new turn based action game in the franchise. On the other hand, a lot of the issues people have are with the ring based battle system. Game Informer stating the ring style action could use refinement.
