Sakurai has since responded, thanking everyone for all of the happy birthday wishes. He is known as one of the hardest working and most determined individuals in the gaming industry. He likes to make jokes about how he never gets any sleep, which apparently leads many of his peers to think that might actually be true. It’s commonly known by now just how much time and energy goes into each Smash Bros. title, with Sakurai even ending up in the hospital at one point from over exerting himself. During an interview with Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream, that Nintendo Everything translated, Sakurai told a story from during the development stage of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where he came down with a very bad case of food poisoning. Apparently it was so bad that he thought he might need to go to the hospital, but instead of going, he got himself hooked up to an IV and continued on with his work. Legend says that during the development of Smash Bros. Melee, the man worked for 13 months straight without taking a single day off. What’s more, he would work for 40 straight hours with no breaks, only to take 4 hours off to sleep (which ultimately led to him collapsing and being hospitalized). Sakurai is a BEAST. At 50 years old, he appears to be aging in reverse, which is strange considering how much the man works. A Twitter user by the name of “JOURDON” said it best: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. SAKURAI!!!King is 50 years old still looking like he pushing 30! Bless.✨🎁🎉🎉🎉 pic.twitter.com/hPb4dSV4JE— JOURDON⚡ (@DynamoSuper) August 2, 2020 The dedication and fan service that Sakurai continues to show towards the Smash Bros. series is something that we can expect only from him. These sorts of traits and qualities in leadership aren’t something that can be forced – he is truly passionate about his work and it shows immensely. Thank you Sakurai for all of the time and energy you have committed for us to enjoy your games. We appreciate all that you do and wish you a very happy birthday.
