The two listings for the Mario Sports trademarks in Europe and Australia were both registered on May 20, 2020. They will expire 10 years after their registered dates, so in May of 2030. Both of the registered trademarks refer to “Mario Sports” and have the following attached to their “Goods and Services” section: Electronic game programs; downloadable electronic game programs; video game programs; downloadable video game programs; video game cartridges; memory cards for video game machines; cases for smartphones; covers for smartphones; computer game software, downloadable; computer game software, recorded; computer programs, recorded; computer programs, downloadable; compact discs [audio-video]; downloadable image files; downloadable music files; electronic publications, downloadable. Previous entries in the Mario Sports series were the Mario Sports Mix game released on the Wii along with Mario Sports Superstars that came out on the 3DS. There have been no officially confirmed Mario Sports Switch games in development at this time, but with Nintendo registering these Mario Sports trademarks, it appears that they still plan to keep the series going. The Switch definitely would be a great console for it, with such a large number of Switch players ready for new first party titles. The Mario Sports game on the Wii went on to sell over a million copies within just a few months of its release. With a new Mario Sports game not being released in over three years now, it seems Nintendo might be hard at work cooking one up.
