Smash is a game that will sell tens of millions. Literally.
It was like "Hey, you know how wifi reception sucks on the Switch? Buy our LAN adapter, because we didn't put an ethernet port on the dock, it's only 59.99. Oh, and also, buy our GameCube adapter."
And they know that
Because ideally Nintendo will figure their shit out with online eventually
I'm not optimistic but maybe
Smash fans won't outcry
I mean, look at the last direct. Before the direct everybody was like "dedicated servers or we riot!"
The smash direct was working with what they had, sakurai doesn't have control over Nintendo online services
After the direct it was like "oh well, they assured us that the matchmaking will take into consideration the distance of the players so we don't need dedicated servers!"
Casual fans will buy the game if they want, and won't buy it if they don't, but their complaints won't be heard. Competitive fans don't give a damn about online, they play local
For real, we need to apply for Nintendo!
Who in the Fuck is so hissy pissy about online over there that they wanna ruin it for everyone?!
Let's also be clear, having an online server infrastructure is not cheap, is not easy, and is not quick to implement
a lot of people - myself included - have been like 'well, i guess we'll wait and see how online is, and if they improve it' and it's just good enough to keep people satisfied, not quite terrible enough for people to demand change
Nintega, there's one thing to keep in consideration: they care about Japan.
In japan p2p works because of a single reason: density of players
Didn't we have this same discussion before?
Yep
If something works in Japan, they see no reason to change it
But considering NA & EU make up AT LEAST 70% of their sales, don't you fucking think they'd care about them too?!
