If we go how Wikipedia considers it, then both MK8D and MK Live: Home Circut are both Switch games.

It's less of a game and more of a toy

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit are both Switch games, yes. Not sure why that's disputable.

Having Mario Kart Live myself, I can confirm it is, indeed, a video game.

LHM isn't MK9 tho

That's not what is being debated

Nintendo regards Mario Kart Live and Mario Kart Tour as Mario Kart titles.
But Mario Kart Live is actually Mario Kart 10 😛
