This is what I meant by "within reason"
Built-in cheat codes, legally allowed devices like a game genie or game shark, mods that introduce Quality-of-Life improvements, etc. are fine, so long as single player or doesn't cause problems for other people.
Using a cheat to create an unfair advantage is more questionable.
I've been told using items in built-in Smash Bros. is cheating, since it creates an unfair advantage.
But since both sides have access to it without modding or external influences, the "unfairness" becomes even throughout, in my opinion.
By contrast, using a hacking device to get yourself a Pokémon with max-out stats isn't fine, because not only isn't fair to people who don't have the device, it's against the spirit of Pokémon to not train your team.
