I’ve had my joycons since I bought my switch V2 a year ago, both work perfectly in good condition. No scratches on my screen. I pay $7 3 months for online and switch games are same price as ps4 and Xbox new games. There’s literally nothing wrong with it in comparison to other consoles and if you don’t like it as much as you say then don’t play it honestly.
And people who jailbreak ps3 and 4s and Xbox’s are breaking the law and at huge risk for penalty if ever caught including bans and lawsuits and As you said they can’t update games either and it’s all around dumb as hell as a choice.
my joycons from 2017 are still holding up just fine, but maybe that has to do with the fact that i only ever use them for multiplayer purposes, as singleplayer games i play with my pro controller most of the time

when i play singleplayer, 90% of the time its pro controller yes. havent been able to play much with friends locally recently because corona but before corona id play a lot with my friends locally, so the joycons still got a fair amount of use
for odyssey, pro controller worked fine and i never got tennis aces. i feel your pain tho, back where i used to live nintendo was very irrelevant, and id have to get all my nintendo gear from outside the country which got expensive
right when i moved to a different country, the switch suddenly exploded in popularity where i used to live so i missed out lol
well i havent ran in to those problems myself, im sorry that it happens to you tho
